Two Foreign Nationals Die in Ogun Auto Crash Involving Anthony Joshua, Tinubu, Abiodun Commiserate

The Ogun State Government has confirmed the death of two foreign nationals in a fatal road accident involving world-renowned heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
The accident occurred on Monday around noon at the Makun axis near the Sinoma area, close to Sagamu, when a Lexus SUV conveying Joshua and other passengers collided with a stationary truck while travelling from Lagos to Sagamu. Two male foreign nationals reportedly died instantly, while Joshua survived with minor injuries.
In a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, the state government said preliminary reports indicated that the victims’ remains had been deposited at the Livewell Morgue in Sagamu. Joshua and the driver of the vehicle were rescued by security personnel attached to his convoy and taken to a hospital, where they are currently receiving medical attention.
The statement added that the wrecked SUV has been moved to the Sagamu Motor Traffic Division, while arrangements are underway to tow the stationary truck involved in the crash to enable a thorough investigation by relevant authorities.
The Ogun State Government expressed condolences to the families and friends of the deceased and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured. It also urged motorists to exercise caution and obey traffic regulations, especially during the festive season when vehicular movement is usually heavy.
Meanwhile, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has condoled with Anthony Joshua and his family over the tragic incident. In a telephone conversation with the boxer, President Tinubu expressed deep sympathy over the loss of two of his associates and wished him a quick recovery.
According to a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President also spoke with Joshua’s mother to offer prayers and reassurance. He further contacted Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, who was said to be at the hospital with Joshua, and received assurances that the state government was providing the best possible medical attention.
Earlier, President Tinubu, who is currently abroad, had taken to social media platform X to describe Joshua as a source of national pride and prayed for strength and grace for him and his family, while wishing eternal rest for the departed.
The incident has once again drawn attention to the dangers posed by stationary trucks on major highways, particularly along the busy Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, which has recorded several fatal accidents in recent times.
