The Kwara State Government has recorded another major milestone in its infrastructure development drive, completing 84 road and related projects across urban and rural communities between April and September 2025.
The Commissioner for Works, Engr. Abdulquawiy Olododo, disclosed this during the third-quarter inter-ministerial press briefing held on Wednesday at the Ministry of Finance Conference Room in Ilorin. He said the projects, covering 76.5 kilometers within the six-month period, form part of the administration’s ongoing Urban Renewal and Rural Development Agenda under Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
“These achievements reflect our commitment to modernizing infrastructure in line with the Governor’s vision for a more connected and economically vibrant Kwara,” Olododo stated.
He added that beyond the completed projects, another 48 kilometers of roads are currently under construction, while about 52 kilometers have been newly approved, underscoring the administration’s resolve to sustain the pace of development across the state.
According to the commissioner, the infrastructure push is part of a broader plan to boost connectivity, ease transportation, enhance road safety, and drive commerce across communities. “With over 384 kilometers of road projects completed or ongoing since the inception of this administration, Kwara is steadily transforming into a more connected, business-friendly, and resilient state,” he added.
Olododo explained that the government’s commitment extends beyond road construction. The Kwara State Road Maintenance Agency (KWARMA) has intensified palliative works to ensure existing roads remain motorable, while the State Fire Service has been equipped with modern tools, improved communication systems, and advanced training to enhance emergency response capacity. These efforts, he noted, have helped save lives and property worth billions of naira in recent months.
The commissioner also highlighted the government’s focus on rural development through the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), which is improving feeder roads and upgrading key agricultural markets across all three senatorial districts. The project, he said, is stimulating rural economies, promoting food security, and earning the state national recognition for its implementation success.
Observers say the massive infrastructure rollout aligns with Governor AbdulRazaq’s inclusive governance model aimed at linking rural communities to urban centers, promoting industrial growth, and ensuring that development touches every part of Kwara.
In a statement issued by a Spokesman for the Ministry of Works, Abdulquadri Kayode Ahmed, the government reaffirmed that infrastructure renewal remains a cornerstone of its economic transformation strategy.
Governor AbdulRazaq, according to the statement, remains steadfast in his commitment to “building a stronger Kwara where infrastructure drives inclusive development and every community feels the impact of governance.”
With the pace of work and the scope of ongoing projects, Kwara appears poised to consolidate its position as one of Nigeria’s emerging models in subnational infrastructure development.
