Gunners Aim to Hammer Hammers in Arteta’s 300th Game Showdown

It’s milestone weekend at the Emirates as Mikel Arteta takes charge of his 300th match as Arsenal boss — and he could mark it by firing the Gunners to the top of the Premier League before the October international break.
Standing in his way? A revamped West Ham side under new Manager, Nuno Espirito Santo, who has promised courage, hard work and a tighter bond with the Irons’ faithful. But history — and recent form — suggest the Hammers may need more than goodwill to stop a free-flowing Arsenal side that has made the Emirates a fortress this season.
Arsenal fans won’t need reminding that West Ham have twice stunned them in North London over the past two campaigns, including a smash-and-grab win last December. Arteta admitted those painful defeats still sting:
“We learned in the last two seasons. We had two defeats against them here, and it’s something we need to put right. Tomorrow is another opportunity to do that.
The Spaniard has the best win rate of any Arsenal manager in history, but he knows his legacy will ultimately be measured in silverware. Three points against the Hammers would keep momentum rolling in a season where the Gunners are again tipped to challenge Manchester City for the crown.
Bukayo Saka, already a poster boy of English football, is set to feature in his 200th Premier League game. Arteta reflected on his star boy’s journey from left-back rookie to global superstar:
“We’ve had a great journey together… it’s been a joy to see him every single day.”
Defensive rock Gabriel Magalhães remains a slight doubt after picking up a knock in midweek, while summer signing Piero Hincapié won’t return until after the break.
For West Ham, Saturday marks only Nuno’s second game in charge since replacing Graham Potter. The Portuguese tactician has already laid down the law, dropping James Ward-Prowse in his debut match and warning that the Irons’ notorious set-piece frailties remain a “big problem.”
Nuno was candid about the challenge ahead:
“Arsenal are very strong from set-pieces. There’s still a problem with the second phase but it is something we are trying to address.”
Defender Max Kilman, who worked with Nuno at Wolves, will make his 200th club appearance, adding steel to a backline that will need to be flawless against Arsenal’s slick attack.
The timing raises the stakes: with two weeks off for internationals, both sides are desperate to go in on a high. For Arsenal, victory could mean hitting the summit of the Premier League. For West Ham, it’s about showing early signs that Nuno can steady the ship.
One thing is certain — the Emirates will be rocking for Arteta’s landmark match. The big question: will it be a celebration or another Hammer blow?
