Wole Soyinka Centre/Albarka FM Holds One-Day Media Roundtable On How Journalists Can Use FOI to Uncover Hidden Stories and Expose the Truth
The Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism in collaboration with Albarka 89.9 FM, Ganmo, Kwara State on Tuesday 16th of July, organized a one-day media roundtable on the topic “From Request to Revelation: How Journalists Can Use FOI to Uncover Hidden Stories and Expose the Truth” with participants drawn from media organizations and practitioners across the state.
The Enlightenment and Knowledge Enriched programme which was funded by the MacArthur Foundation was held at City-In-Hotel, G.R.A Ilorin, with media executives and journalists from conventional and new media in attendance.
A resource person, Ayonde Longe who delivered his speech via zoom, speaks on “From Request to Revelation: How Journalists Can Use FOI to Uncover Hidden Stories and Expose the Truth”
said t is a fundamental human right established under international law.
“Freedom of information refers to the legal right, which members of the public in any society have to access information held by government officials and institutions.
“All members of the public are entitled to enjoy this right.
He added that “It is a legal tool that enhances investigative Journalism. Empowers journalists to hold government accountable. Helps uncover hidden stories about corruption, abuse of power, and other wrongdoings.”
The participants also made contributions and lauded the organizers of the programme and the quality of resource persons said the programme was an opener to contemporary knowledge in the field of investigative Journalism and accountability.
