President  Muhammadu Buhari has been sworn in for a second term in a low key ceremony at the nation’s capital, Abuja.

The President was sworn in for a second term by the Acting Chief Justice, Tanko Mohammed at exactly 10.42 am local time.

Buhari was flanked by his wife, Aisha when the oath was administered.

Before President Buhari, the Chief Justice administered oath of office on the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo who was also flanked by his wife Dolapo.

Present at the ceremony were the country’s senate president and the speaker of House of Representatives, the ruling party chieftains as well as other government officials.

Unlike past inaugurations, the president did not make any speech at the event rather he stood to observe the march pass by a combined procession of police and military.

The main ceremony has been shifted to June 12, Nigeria’s new democracy day, in honour of the late billionaire businessman, Moshood Abiola, the acclaimed winner of the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election

Buhari had defeated his main challenger, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the main opposition, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the February 23, 2019 presidential election. Buhari emerged the winner of the election with 15,191,847 votes, while Atiku scored 11,262,978 votes.

The outcome of the election is being challenged by Abubakar in court.
