Police launch manhunt for abductors of Katsina students
The Police have launched manhunt for bandits who abducted dozens of students at the Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina state
The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Adamu ordered the deployment of additional operational and investigative officers to support the ongoing search and rescue operations in Kankara and its environs in the State.
The deployment of special policemen followed a directive by President Muhammadu Buhari to the Police and other security agencies to fish out the bandits who abducted at least 54 students from the school.
A statement by spokesman for the President, Mallam Garba Shehu, President Buhari strongly condemned the bandits’ attack at the school and charged the army and the police to go after the attackers to ensure that no student gets missing or harmed.
The President who is on a one week private visit to the state urged the school authorities to carry out an audit of the population of the students following shootings in and around the school that sent hundreds of them fleeing and scrambling over perimeter walls.
“I strongly condemn the cowardly bandits’ attack on innocent children at the Science School, Kankara, the statement said.
The statement said the President has directed the reinforcement of security of all schools in line with the safe schools policy of the administration.
In a swift reaction to the incident, Police spokesman, Frank Mba said the Inspector General of Police has deployed operatives from the Police Tactical Squads and crack detectives from the Force Intelligence Bureau, who will provide investigative support to the Katsina State Police Command.
Mba said the special forces will work in sync with the military and other law enforcement agents in coordinated efforts aimed at rescuing the students, hunting down the perpetrators and bringing them to book.
Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police has also ordered the immediate review and strengthening of security arrangements around educational institutions across the Country.
