The Bandits armed with sophisticated weapons attacked the  Secondary School

less than six hours after President Muhammadu Buhari arrived Katsina , his home state for a week long private visit.

The  principal of the School,  Usman Abubakar  said  the bandits arrived the school at about 10:15 pm on Friday night and operated for about an hour.
Abubakar said that  the bandits on arrival at the school gate , shot one of the policemen at the gate.
The bandits according to him, proceeded to the staff quarters where they abducted a wife of one of the staff and later released her but  went away with her child.

The situation was however brought under control when soldiers stationed at Kankara came and  engaged the bandits in a gun duel.

Abubakar said that the school management and the police are currently conducting a headcount among the students to ascertain the exact number of the students that were abducted or otherwise during the attack.

“Precisely we cannot ascertain the number of students kidnapped until later in the day as some of the students are now resurfacing from the nearby bush. We are currently taking the attendance. Some of them went straight to their various houses with their parents calling us that their children are at home”. Abubakar noted.

When contacted however, the police spokesman, SP Gambo Isah confirmed the incident  on phone.

“What happened was that yesterday around 11:30 pm, we had a report that Bandits in their numbers armed with AK 47 Rifles attacked the Government Science Secondary School Ƙanƙara”.
“Already We have policemen that were posted in that school. So there was exchange of fire between our policemen and the Bandits. Infact, they shot one of our policeman that got injured and he has been taken to the hospital and is responding to treatment”, Isah sad
