23 villages in Akanbi ward 1 & 2 express concern over Acquisition/Revocation Notice Of Communities’ Lands, Appeal To Governor Abdulrasaq To Save Their Soul.

The people of 23 Villages at home and abroad in Akanbi Ward 1&2 of Ilorin South LGA of Kwara state on Thursday registered their deepest feelings and sadness over the proposal of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq-led administration to acquire and revoke their only lands being used for farming and food processing for the establishment of llorin Smart City at this period they said hunger is killing.

The Chairman of the Akanbi Ward 1 & 2 Development Association in Lagos, Mr Azeez Omolola, who expressed this concern on behalf of the people of the 23 villages at a press briefing in Fufu, explained that they received the notification letter on revocation/acquisition of their land originally addressed to Daodu Fufu with great shocked and concerned.

While applauding the administration for the transformational agenda it has in place, Mr Omolola demanded that the State Government should immediately suspend all plans to revoke/acquire their ancestral lands, constitute a panel of inquiry to look into what had led to the decision that left out the people of the community in a matter that bother on their lives and examine all alternative way to avoid destruction and grabbing of their communities’ ancestral lands, forests, and farmlands.

The people of Akanbi Ward 1 & 2 also asked that the state government carry out a thorough review of adverse ecological, socio-cultural, economic, financial, and reputational impacts of the proposed smart city before it precipitates a man-made disaster for their communities; and that a constituted special committee must include all the stakeholders from the government side, each of the communities involved, as well as all concerned organizations, while appealing to Governor AbdulRazaq to recognize and allow their rights to be respected and preserved.
